Walter Albini, Swiss producer and live performer, has a long career behind him in the world of electronic music with numerous collaborations with artists of the caliber of Marc Molina, Carlos Cabrera, Bongo Beat.
Talking with Albini was extremely interesting: knowing the opinions and points of view of a producer with such a long experience allowed us to understand a lot about the music sector, and also to discover something more about the creative processes that lead to the actual creation of a song. Enjoy the reading!
- Hi Walter! First of all, thank you for agreeing in having a chat with us. You have a long career behind you in the world of electronic music, would you like to tell us the origins of your artistic path and how your first approach to musical composition was?
Hi Music lovers , it’s a big pleasure for me !
Well i started music as a singer in a band (ehehe) but with a Korg MS-20 and a Roland TR808 because i was fascinated by electronic music from the beginning.
Than thanks to the lazy musicians who often didn’t come to the rehearsal room i started doing things alone. Electronic music allows you to build complete musical pieces alone.
- Your works range from Techno to Deep House, passing through Tech House and Deep Tech. Which genre allows you to express your creativity at its best?
Oh , so much musical genres ?
Well think there’s my distinctinve trademark in all that genres isnt it ?
I was joking, i’ve always had some difficulties in precisely defining the my musical genre.
I rarely start making music with a precise idea of what genre of music i will do, i think the creative process is somewhat magic that dont need to have borders. So dont have a favorite genre but I move in the areas you mentioned above.
- Considering your long experience, how and how much has the electronics panorama changed?
Things changed both good and bad.
Good because it has become easier to make complete tracks even from home, also build music labels and distribute music.
The bad part that emerged is some superficiality with which music is approached but, some are saying which is due to the fact that there is too much music now.
Well ,think it always happened to all musical movements, at a certain point music industry appears, trying to reduce the movement to a trend, thinking that everything boils down to an attitude.
But, i repeat music is magic.
Another bad point is that a producer need to be also a videomaker, a social expert, a networking expert, a marketing strategist.. and he can never sit on what he have, because he needs to always make more, more and more.
Too much energies that are taken away from the music and that’s not nice at all.
Anyway i move on.

- From an artistic point of view, are you more satisfied performing in public, or creating music in the studio?
I think they are linked processes, create music and than play it, i love both.
During live sets i test new songs or rearranged old ones and, yeah, i love the interchange of energies between me and the dancers.
- What inspires your works? (personal events, memories, a beautiful view, a walk, etc.)
Yeah, personal events, memories but also a lot of imagined situations because im a visionary.
- Can you tell us something about your plans for 2024? Any collaboration?
Not so much planned at the moment, it’s a work in progress, but i am always open to collaborations.
- Last question: what advice would you give to a young person who today dreams of making a career in the world of music?
Lots of patience and perseverance! I think it’s normal to desire some results immediately but it rarely happens, this can be discouraging but it takes a long time to find your sound.
Don’t listen to those saying that it doesn’t make sense to spend too much time creating music because it will end up being forgotten quickly and bla bla bla; if you want to stand out you have to create something personal : so spend the necessary time.
Make music for and with passion !
